IRENE KERUBO
Working in Kenya
Meet Irene - she had a rough start, being a victim of polio which robbed her of her legs. But her bright smile shines and her dynamic energy is changing a community. Not so long ago, Irene was facing homelessness with her two children and was heading towards the rocks of despair. Extending to her a hand to help her up has meant she now has a small but safe house for her family and a small shop.
But that was not enough for Irene! She had empathy for the many disabled mothers begging on the streets of her city in Kenya. Visiting them in their distress became part of Irene’s routine as she maneuvered her wheelchair around the potholes and the dirt.
Irene has now helped up Winnie and her two boys, who also suffered greatly due to her disability. Winnie now has a safe home for her family.
And yet still Irene’s vision expands and she has opened a business with 7 disabled mothers to make and sell liquid soaps. She is changing the disabled community one family at a time…
